About AstroEngine and IJODesign

AstroEngine.com came into being early 2006, but the development leading up to the version you are looking at began way back in 2002. Originally a base of operations for my physics and solar research, astroengine.com has grown into a more diverse entity. Although my professional background centers around solar physics research, I am developing a string of award winning commercial, research and personal websites. ijoDesign forms the base of these design efforts. I hope astroengine.com will demonstrate the design and development capabilities of this venture. If you have a web design/administration project you would like me to be involved in, please send me a message.

About me

The University of Wales, Aberystwyth, Inst. of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (in the snow of 2005)

I am a Solar Physics doctor formally with the Solar Physics Group at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. I researched particle energization by plasma waves in the solar corona, in particular Alfvén wave interactions and turbulence in coronal loops. My PhD supervisor was Dr. Xing Li.

I was born in Bristol (South-West England) in 1980 where I lived until I moved to Aberystwyth (West Wales) in 1998 to study a Planetary and Space Physics MPhys degree. My parents, Kim and Colin, still live in Bristol.

My sister, Colette, graduated with a high 2(i) in Zoology at the University of Wales, Swansea in 2004. She then went to University of Wales, Bangor to study a Masters of Ecology in 2005 (and was awarded a Distinction) after spending 6 months in Malaysia carrying out conservation work. She is currently studying for her PhD in the University of Warwick where she is researching the MRSA bug which threatens our hospitals. Have a look at the Wellington Research Group site.

Although solar research continues to be my main focus, I have a fair few interests and distractions. Primarily I am heavily involved with the Mars Foundation™, a non-profit organization based in Massachusetts. I currently hold the position of webmaster and communications officer. I also act in an advisory capacity for the Foundation's Mars Homestead Project™, a highly successful Mars settlement concept. In addition, I am science contributer and administrator for Marspedia, a new and fast-growing Mars-based wiki.

Muay Thai (Thai boxing) is a passion of mine. It is one of the most exhilarating martial arts I have ever attempted. In October 2005, the Petchyindee, Aberystwyth Camp travelled to Telford to meet Kru Nick Hewitson for an intensive training session and gradings. All members (including myself) achieved Grade III standard. I also have a huge interest in volleyball. I was in the university team, and held the positions of Vice-President and Social Secretary. I was also their web designer and webmaster (UWA Volleyball Club).

I am currently developing websites for The Mars Foundation, Cheek2Cheek Dance Studio (in San Diego, CA), In the Dark Productions (London), Goldberg-Schusterman LLC. (Los Angeles, CA) and Petchyindee International Muay Thai Boxing Club (Detroit, MA). See ijoDesign for more information on recent web design projects. I have a strong interest in science, nature and technology. My time spent in Svalbard, Norway (2002) has also given me an acute interest in the Arctic, international travel and study.

I now travel to-and-from the beautiful city of Woodland Hills, California, to spend time with my beautiful girlfriend Debra and six bunnies (!). I am also in the process of acquiring research funding to continue my Solar Physics research at the nearby California State University, Northridge (CSUN).
